Kai for Disney+ "Growing Up" Movie Premiere Afterparty
One of the best things about being a part of Prism DJs is having a front-row seat to our team’s accomplishments. In this case, we’re celebrating DJ Kai, the youngest member of our team, who had the opportunity to DJ the premiere afterparty for the new Disney+ series “Growing Up.”
This poignant docu-series shares the coming-of-age stories of ten young adults–their trials and tribulations as well as their triumphs. These ten individuals represent virtually all walks of life, and each expresses deeply moving insights from their own adolescent and teen experiences. As a creation of Brie Larson and Culture House, “Growing Up” is one of the first and most powerful series of its kind.
Because of the nature of “Growing Up,” the client was specifically looking for a teen DJ for this event, making Kai a perfect match. Who better to supply the soundtrack for an evening honoring inspiring young adults than another inspiring young adult? DJ Kai first entered Prism’s radar in 2018 when Founder Tessa Young met her at Camp Spinoff, the only sleepaway camp for teens. Since then, Tessa has been following Kai’s DJ journey and offering light mentorship along the way. The Prism team has also been incredibly supportive, with members K-Sly and Annalyze providing DJ lessons for Kai. Kai is currently studying business and music production while working part-time.
The “Growing Up” premiere afterparty, with DJ Kai at the helm, was a celebration of young people, empowerment, and perseverance. And what better venue for such an event than the NeueHouse Hollywood rooftop? Kai’s premiere event DJ playlist featured Tik Tok music, pop music, hip hop, and teen hits, and she was sure to include uplifting, feel-good inspirational songs in those genres. Tracks like Lizzo’s “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready),” Demi Lovato’s “Confident,” Normani’s “Motivation,” One Republic’s “I Ain’t Worried,” and Katrina and the Waves’ “Walking on Sunshine” were just a few of the standouts from this extraordinary night.
This event was certainly one to remember for both the cast and Kai. Her vibrance and flair in the booth were so contagious, transforming the scene into an all-out celebration. DJ Kai is constantly wowing us with her talent, drive, and growth, and she can now add Disney DJ to her list of accomplishments. We couldn’t be more proud!
